Why Link a PDF to a QR Code?
PDF remains the most universal document format. Linking a QR code to a PDF gives instant access to:
- Restaurant menus: full version with photos
- Sales brochures: detailed product catalog
- User manuals: device instructions
- Price lists: updated pricing
- Resumes: full version of your career history
- Terms and conditions: legal documents
The advantage: the QR code is small (a sticker will do) but gives access to a multi-page document.
Prerequisite: Host Your PDF Online
The QR code points to a URL. Your PDF must be accessible via a public link.
Google Drive (Recommended)
- Upload your PDF to Google Drive
- Right-click → Share → "Anyone with the link"
- Copy the link
For a direct link (that opens the PDF without the Google Drive interface), replace /file/d/ID/view with /uc?export=download&id=ID in the URL.
Dropbox
- Upload the PDF
- Click "Copy link"
- Replace
dl=0withdl=1for a direct download
Your Website
Upload the PDF to your hosting and use the direct URL (e.g., https://mysite.com/docs/brochure.pdf).
Generate the QR Code
- Go to the QRaft PDF generator
- Paste your PDF URL
- Check the preview
- Download as PNG, SVG, or PDF
Tip: Update Without Reprinting
If you keep the same URL and replace the PDF file at that address, the QR code will automatically point to the new version.
With a QRaft Pro account, you can also create a dynamic QR code whose destination URL can be changed at any time.
Best Practices
- Optimize PDF size: compress it for fast loading on mobile
- Make it responsive: ensure text is readable on a phone screen
- Test the link: scan the QR code from another device before distributing
- Add a call-to-action: "Scan to view our catalog"
