Micro QR code is a compact variant of the standard QR code. It uses only one position detection pattern (instead of three) and can store up to 35 numeric characters.
By removing two of the three finder patterns and simplifying the format, Micro QR codes require significantly less space. They come in 4 versions (M1-M4) with matrices from 11x11 to 17x17 modules. The trade-off is limited data capacity and less error correction.
Mark electronic components with tiny codes containing serial numbers.
Label small medical instruments with identification codes.
Encode product IDs on tiny labels attached to jewelry.
Support varies. Most standard QR readers don't support Micro QR. Specialized scanners or apps are needed.
Only when physical space is extremely limited and data is very short (serial numbers, IDs).
No. Standard QR codes are universally supported and recommended for all consumer-facing use cases.
